Empowerment Academy

Empowerment Academy, 2023-2024

(versión en español)

Empowerment Academy offers students an alternative environment aimed at helping students find success in school.  This program will provide students with a community approach to learning, while earning credits more quickly than they would be able to in a traditional school environment.  Empowerment has six hexters throughout  the school year with three classes per day so that students can earn credit more quickly while focusing on fewer classes at a time.

Students who have earned fewer than 15.5 credits and who are looking for a different school environment to earn their high school diploma are eligible to apply.  All students that are interested must submit an application and complete an interview with their guardians to determine if they are the right fit for the program.

In order to be accepted into the program, all students will have to agree to the following:

  • Students must attend daily to maintain enrollment.  Students with three absences will be placed on a probationary contract and any continued absences will result in loss of credit for the class and/or removal from the program.  Four tardies equals one absence and students that are more than 30 minutes late to a class are considered absent for that period.
  • Students must participate in class and complete daily assignments.  Students that do not complete work or participate will not receive credit for the course.
  • Students are expected to complete all assignments through their own honest efforts and expected to encourage honesty with their peers.  Plagiarism or receiving unauthorized aid of any kind may result in being removed from the program.
  • Students in the program will have limited movement between different classrooms throughout the school day. Our intention is to minimize distractions that class changes can cause. At times, students may be in one classroom all day, with staff rotating for different content areas.

Discovery Program
Upon acceptance into the program, students will complete a six week class called Discovery.  The Discovery class helps create an environment for positive habit changes in students. Through Discovery, students learn and master the social-emotional skills necessary to be successful in school and in life. It is designed to improve student achievement by enhancing the academic and personal habits of students before they begin the Empowerment Program coursework.
