Empowerment Program

Arvada High School Empowerment Program

Empowerment Academy offers students an alternative environment aimed at helping students find success in school. The program provides students with a community approach to learning, while earning credits more quickly than they would be able to in a traditional school environment.

The program is open to 11th and 12th graders who have earned fewer than 15.5 credits and are looking for a different environment to earn their high school diploma. Students are selected for the program based on an application and an interview which includes a parent or guardian. Applications for Fall 2023 will open in April 2023.

Students who are accepted into the program must agree to the following:
  • Students must meet attendance requirements to maintain enrollment.
  • Students must participate in class and complete daily assignments.
  • Students are expected to complete all assignments through their own honest efforts and are expected to encourage honesty with their peers.
  • Students will have limited movement between different classrooms throughout the school day. The intention is to minimize distractions that class changes can cause. At times, students may be in one classroom all day with staff rotating for different content areas.
Classes within the program will run on a hexter schedule, so every five weeks students will start a new class. There are three hexters in a semester.  Each hexter a student will take an elective class (for example, PE), two core classes (like English and Social Studies) and an online credit recovery class.
